How to play

Set up once, then run!

KinetiRun has four ways to play. Pick one, set it up in a minute, and help the mouse outrun the cat with your body, your hands, the TV or a swipe.

Before you start

These tips are for the camera ways to play: Body Motion, Hand Gestures, workouts and TV + phone.

  • Clear some space and play on a non-slip floor.
  • Light in front of you, not behind. A bright window behind you makes you hard to see.
  • Say yes to the camera. The first time, the phone asks to use it. The picture is analysed on the device.
  • Keep the phone steady. Prop it up so it doesn’t wobble or slide.
✓ Light in front: easy to see
✗ Window behind: hard to see

Body Motion

Play with your whole body

Prop the phone up, step back, and the front camera follows your moves.

  1. 1 Prop the phone up with the front camera facing the room.
  2. 2 Step back until the camera can see all of you, head to feet.
  3. 3 Start a run and move!
  • Move left

The mouse switches to the lane on the left.

  • Move right

The mouse switches to the lane on the right.

  • Jump

    The mouse jumps.

  • Crouch

    The mouse ducks.

Listen for the voice callouts

The game calls out:

“Left”“Middle”“Right”“Jump”“Duck”

Hand Gestures · the default

Your palm is the controller

  • Keep the phone about an arm’s length away.
  • Where your palm is picks the lane: left, middle or right.
  • A quick flick up jumps.
  • A quick flick down ducks.

TV + phone

Big screen, whole room

The game runs on the TV. The phone stands on a stool facing the player and acts as the camera.

  1. 1 Open KinetiRun on the TV.
  2. 2 On your phone, scan the QR code shown on the TV to pair.
  3. 3 Stand the phone on a stool, facing you, and step back.

The phone and TV talk over your home Wi-Fi, and the phone sends only your moves. Works on Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV.

Touch & TV remote

Classic swipes, always free

  • ← Swipe left: move a lane left
  • → Swipe right: move a lane right
  • ↑ Swipe up: jump
  • ↓ Swipe down: duck

On the TV, play with the remote’s arrow pad: left and right to change lanes, up to jump, down to duck.

Workout rounds

Timed rounds that count every move

A workout round is a timed motion session. Every jump, duck and lane change adds to your total moves. Getting caught costs points, but the round keeps going, so keep moving until the clock runs out.

At the end, a cheerful results screen shows your best score for each way of playing, and a score card you can share.

Troubleshooting

Not quite working?

The game can’t see me

  • Turn on a light in front of you, and close the curtains behind you.
  • For Body Motion, step back until your whole body fits on screen.
  • Check that KinetiRun is allowed to use the camera in your phone’s settings.
  • Give the camera lens a quick wipe.

My moves are missed

  • Make your moves big and clear: a proper jump, a proper crouch.
  • For Hand Gestures, keep the phone about an arm’s length away and flick quickly.
  • Make sure the phone is steady and not tilting.

The TV can’t find my phone

  • Put the phone and the TV on the same home Wi-Fi.
  • If your phone asks to find devices on your local network, allow it.
  • Scan the QR code on the TV again.
  • Close KinetiRun on both and open it again.

I’ve used my free camera runs

  • Camera play gives 3 free runs a day. Touch and TV-remote play stay free and unlimited.
  • “Unlimited” is a one-time purchase on the phone, behind a parental check.
